01 Oct Your Facebook Videos Aren’t Long Enough
How much time do you spend watching video when you scroll through Facebook?
It’s an important question to ask yourself, especially when you think about how long the videos that you’re creating should be.
While you might not have a universal answer, there are a few important factors to bear in mind when posting video to Facebook. Great stories tend to grab people and hold them, pacing is important, and of course creating videos for people who prefer to watch without flicking on the sound is critical.
But no matter what your preference is for watch time, Zuck & Co. have some thoughts on how long video content should be. Back in May, Facebook announced some big changes to the way they serve videos. Most importantly for this conversation: “We will add more weight in ranking to videos that keep people engaged, especially on videos that are at least three minutes long.”
This might seem to run counter to what you’ve heard or attempted in the past, but generally when the Zuck speaks, we’d do well to listen. In this case the edict is clear – longer videos are going to get priority in the news feed. Keep an eye on your own feed with some of the more popular publishers, and you’ll likely see this in action.
So what are you waiting for? Get out there and post some long-form content. Then of course, let us know how it goes!
